Our very first announcement. It's hard to believe that it took us 6 years to finally implement this feature.

With this new feature, we will now remove the weekly email updates regarding new features and updates and instead, we will draft weekly Announcements.
We will gradually roll out new features to this module, including the ability to subscribe to certain tags and topics.

Stay tuned for more updates over the coming days and weeks.

Major Collection UI update

by pacMakaveli on Friday, 28th of May 2021 at 15:06PM

July is slowly creeping and we're nowhere near finishing what we planned before release date :(

Anyway, today's update revolves around the Collection overview which has been re-designed based on your feedback. So thank you, a lot!

Without further ado, here's a breakdown of the major changes alongside some screenshots.

  • Change for improved text legibility of any text that overlaps the game cover
  • A new way of associating a collection with its game. You should start, hopefully, see fewer missing games for your collections. We also temporarily removed the ability to manually fix an incorrect match. We will keep an eye and see how the new matching algorithm works.
  • Changed the way we show the stats of a Collection and they are now enclosed in boxes which should improve their readability
  • Enhanced the Platinum trophy punch card for PlayStation Collections
  • You can now see a breakdown of PlayStation Trophies instead of just how many trophies you have
  • New stat additions for First Played at and Last Played at
  • Fix the Time played stat which should now show the right breakdown. Ex: 25 hours now shows 1 day and 1 hour instead of 2 days

As always, I hope you like this new update and any new feedback is more than welcomed through our usual channels.

We've disabled the Call of Duty tracker module

by pacMakaveli on Friday, 5th of March 2021 at 20:58PM

It seems that Activision has recently made a back-end change that sets all Call of Duty accounts to private, by default.
https://twitter.com/status/1349891676547002370

Because of this, we cannot track your accounts unless you set your profile to public. However, we understand the reason for the change and fully respect Activision's decision.
Thus, we decided that instead of using workarounds, we will disable, temporarily, the Call of Duty tracker. Your stats and matches will still be kept, for now.

We have already started working on a new API which will allow you to authenticate with Activision and pull your data, regardless of your privacy.

Stay tuned for more info..

New Call of Duty Tracker and API

by pacMakaveli on Sunday, 13th of June 2021 at 22:08PM

A couple of weeks ago we decided to disable our Call of Duty tracker due to some changes done by Activision. More on this: /announcements/we-ve-disabled-the-call-of-duty-tracker-module

We're happy to announce that we now have a new, better, API that allows us to pull your Call of Duty data through more 'official' channels.
Although it's not endorsed by Activision in any way, the new tracker uses the same API that the Call of Duty Mobile app uses.

With the new API we are now able to pull more data than before. For example, we are not limited to your last 20 matches anymore and instead we can pull ALL your matches.

New changes include:

  • Season and Battlepass progress
  • All Matches and their stats, loadouts and players
  • Additional Call of Duty accounts for Cold War or Warzone, if available
  • Friends, their online status, stats and Friendship Management ( add, remove, block, delete, etc.. )

Since this is a very new feature, and it involves syncing a LOT of data from the Call of Duty API, we will gradually roll it out through our Ring based system.

Once your Ring comes up, you will receive a Notification which will allow you to sync your Call of Duty account. In the meantime, have a look at pacMakaveli's Call of Duty tracker.

New GoG integration, testers wanted!

by pacMakaveli on Wednesday, 23rd of June 2021 at 23:11PM

We're happy to announce that we have finished the new GoG API integration. However, due to the fact that none of us actually have a good account to test against, we're looking for people that are interested in helping us test this new feature.

This involves you authenticating your GoG account with games.directory and allowing us to sync your Games, Achievements and Friends.

If you're interested, please send us an email to [email protected].

We're opening our doors!

by pacMakaveli on Tuesday, 2nd of March 2021 at 22:22PM

It's time! It's time to open our doors.

In the last 6 years we've only allowed friends, and friends of friends, and friends of friends of friends, to help us in testing games.directory , and not because we're l33t, but because we weren't sure we could handle the load.

However, in the last year we've shipped new features, updates, and optimisations almost daily to ensure we can take it. But enough with the sexual jokes.

We're happy to announce that we plan to open our doors and allow anyone to register starting July 1st, or worst case scenario, July 30th. It's happening in July no matter what though!

Please note that we have disabled the Invitation system and we're in the process of removing it. We will keep the invite history in the system for our current users and we will most likely create some kick-ass Achievements for everyone who's helped during the Beta period.

For this to happen, we will start revamping our most used UI's, like 'My Collections', 'My Achievements & Trophies', 'My Tracker', and ensure they not only look good, but are easy to use.

We will keep you updated with the new updates over the coming weeks.

Weekly Update #1, #2 and #3

by pacMakaveli on Tuesday, 29th of June 2021 at 23:48PM

Email be gone! Our first Weekly Update(s).
Let's begin.

Over the last couple of weeks, we've been working hard on improving our most used resources across the platform. As such, we've shipped new UI features and optimizations.

A new Landing Page

We're trying to make the landing page more dynamic, as such, we will start showcasing the latest and greatest resources.

  • - Latest Announcements
  • - We will be showing, randomly, active and online users and what they're playing
  • - Latest activities, as in, Achievement and Trophies
  • - Newly added and Coming soon games for our Game Front. This includes games from the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace and Steam Store.

A new Feed Tracker

The new Feed Tracker is smarter and capable of tracking more stats, like the first time you played a game, your friends and their activity and so much more! It also features a new UI that improves upon grouped resources.

We're still testing the new Feed tracker with our Alpha-Skip users, but once we're happy with how it works, we'll start releasing it to everyone and a proper announcement will follow.

The new Game Front

We're working hard on aggregating all the data we collect from the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace and Steam Store into a single resource we called Game Front.
Through Game Front, we'll showcase the newest and upcoming games, indies, most popular etc.. across all major stores.

We've also redesigned and revamped each store page to look the same, regardless of its provider.

A new Friends Overview Page

We've redesigned the Friends Overview page to bring it more in line with the other .directory resources. As such, the initial list has now been replaced by a new page from where you can see your Online friends and most active.
Like 'My Collections' and 'My Achievements & Trophies', you will be able to Browse all, if you want to. This page has also had a quick revamp to better showcase all your friends.

On top of that, we're testing a new feature(s) that allows you to manage your friends in games.directory . This will allow you to add, remove or block friends straight from games.directory.

This feature is only available to authenticated integrations:

  • - Call of Duty
  • - PlayStation
  • - Xbox
  • - Steam
  • - Epic

That's it for this week(s).

Pulse 2.0 is now Live

by pacMakaveli on Thursday, 1st of July 2021 at 22:25PM

After a long hiatus, we're happy to announce that Pulse, our news aggregator service is back online.

You can view the newest gaming and technology articles here: https://games.directory/pulses

Pulse 2.0 brings many improvements, from a new UI to the technology that powers it.
The new version now parses Images, Videos, Galleries and Embedded resources like Tweets and YouToube videos much faster and with better accuracy.

On top of that, we have added a new way of rendering 3rd Party URLs safely and we're also introducing a new Pulse service, the resolver. Although in its infancy, the Resolver will be able to learn which URLs are safe or not and warn you before accessing them. We will also leave safe URLs in the article going forward without extracting them.

We have more features to ship with Pulse, but for now, please enjoy your distraction-free gaming and technology news articles.

As always, please send any feedback through our usual channels.

Weekly Update #4 - games.directory v2.1

by pacMakaveli on Saturday, 17th of July 2021 at 00:42AM

As we approach the end of July, we are now shipping one of our biggest updates yet.

- Viewable Profiles!

When we created games.directory, we initially thought you should only be able to view your own directory. Boy were we wrong!
We're happy to announce that over the coming weeks, we'll be migrating our data and codebase to ensure that every single profile is now visible to anyone. Wanna check your friend's games and activities? Knock yourself out.

By now you know that we care about privacy, a lot. So, to start with, all profiles will be set to friends-only. This means that for now, you will only be able to view your friend's profile.
When everything is done and we can move one, we'll review this.

- A better profile level badge

A couple of small changes to the UI of your level badge but also a few changes behind the scenes. You will probably notice that your points have changed. That's because we've changed the way we add points to a profile.
We'll have more details about these changes in a future announcement once everything is finished.

- Better navigation

Since you can now view another user's profile, the left side menu will now reflect that.
If you are browsing a different profile, the URLs will now point to the current user' directory instead of your directory.

- More frequent PlayStation Network updates

We have made quite a few improvements to our PlayStation Network API and we are now able to scan your account more frequently. The scan has gone from every 6 hours to every 3 hours :)
We're also implementing a new feature for your PlayStation Accounts. Depending on how active you are, games.directory will queue your account for additional scans outside the 3 hours window.

- A new 'My Achievement & Trophies' UI

We finally got to it. We have now updated the Achievements & Trophies UI. We've also added a new feature, the Backlog.
The Backlog works similar to how the Collection one works. Initially, we will automatically assign some trophies to your Backlog but you can also set the ones you want to work on.

EpicStore's Library and Achievements tracking now Live!

by pacMakaveli on Tuesday, 26th of October 2021 at 10:27AM

We're happy to announce that we are now fully supporting EpicStore's Library and Achievements.

You can connect your EpicStore account through your Identity Providers.
We're still working on better ways on connecting your account, but for now, the process is similar with the PlayStation integration.

We fully support the Library and we will sync all your games that you currently have on your Epic account. We're still working on adding the Epic Store integration which will eventually add some metadata to your Collections, like description.

Achievements however, not all games have them. This is a limitation on Epic's side and nothing we can do about it at the moment. Our EpicStore module will be able to sync any incoming achievements whenever they're added, so when Epic adds new Achievements to a title, we'll get them.

Time Tracking is also supported on certain titles. Because we can only view authenticated accounts libraries, we were unable to perform in-depth testing. If Epic's tracking time played on a Title, we'll sync it.

We're still working on adding games.directory features to this, such as Friends, GameFront, Community, Title and Trophy pages. In the meantime, any feedback, on our usual channels, is very much appreciated!

Thank you

Weekly Update #5

by pacMakaveli on Friday, 29th of October 2021 at 14:38PM

Last couple of months have been pretty busy. We've kind of lost track of our weekly updates, but hopefully this time round will be better.

Let's start with some new features:

EpicStore Integration

We've already announced this with a previous announcement, but here it is again: https://games.directory/announcements/epicstore-s-library-and-achievements-tracking-now-live

As a Side note, since its integration we found lots of issues on our end when syncing with EpicStore. We've been working hard to fix them and we're quite happy with the result.
Thank you all for integrating your EpicStore with us and allowing us to test.

Special thanks to: Thijminecraft02, MuckPie, and daddyhughes111

New profile overview:

Depending on whether you're viewing your own profile or someone else's, at a glance, you can now view the:

  • Username, Bio, and Joined date
  • Integrations
We will add more details to this section, in the near future, once we implement overview cards.
  • Level and Summary
We plan to make the Summary, which showcases your Achievements, Collections, and more, completely customisable.
You will be able to change what's displayed instead of having this predefined list.

We also added a couple of new features, like custom backgrounds. You can now edit your Profile and add one!

We changed the way we display integrations from list view to card view. With this change we plan to add more details to each integration in the future and display little widgets like active sessions, last trophy, last game, etc.. Stay tuned!

We're still working on the new profile overview page, and we have many more features to ship for it, but we're excited to see what you think of it.

New Collection Library Overview

We've added a new option for viewing your Collections as a Library. This will only show the collection cover. The idea behind this is to quickly view your library.
On this page we also allow you to view ALL your collections, without limits or pagination.

We will look into adding some basic filters, like platform, starred, etc.. and a search bar soon!

4 years in the making, v2.5 is now live!

by pacMakaveli on Friday, 19th of August 2022 at 13:55PM

Introducing games.directory v2.5

It's been an incredible journey since I started games.directory back in 2014, just as a way to explore programming and create a simple directory of games. Little did I know that it would evolve into the remarkable platform it is today.

Numbers don't lie, and I'm thrilled to share some amazing statistics with you:

  • Over 100 billion achievements are being meticulously tracked, spanning across 50+ million gamers worldwide. That's an astonishing average of 2000 achievements per gamer!
  • There is a bustling community of 2+ million registered users, and together, they have collected a whopping 4 billion collections. That means each user has an average of 80 collections!

Of course, these numbers are rounded, and I'm still working tirelessly to sync everyone's achievements, but I'm proud of the progress I've made.

The vision for games.directory has always been to make gaming a more connected, enjoyable experience. I wanted to make it easy for players to find games they love and effortlessly stay connected with their friends across different platforms. And I've achieved that and more!
games.directory is now easily connected with all your buddies scattered across multiple platforms or services. Thanks to direct integrations with major gaming platforms, we collect all the data you need to effortlessly visualize all your gaming activity.

Not only that, but I've also integrated statistical overviews for popular games like Halo, Call of Duty, Fortnite, and Rocket League, with many more on the way. Whether you're a casual gamer or a hardcore enthusiast, games.directory has something for everyone.

Fellow developers, you have not been forgotten! games.directory's robust and developer-friendly API allows anyone to seamlessly integrate games.directory with their own platforms or tools. And there's more to come, so stay tuned!

Professionally, this journey has been incredibly rewarding too. I've learned invaluable lessons about building a scalable, reliable, and secure application. Testing and documentation have become cornerstones of my development process, ensuring a seamless experience for my users. Good design and clean code have been my guiding principles (I like to think I've nailed it!).

So, what's next for games.directory? The foundation is strong, but I'm not stopping here. I have big plans to make this platform open-source, profitable, and sustainable for the long haul. I want to keep working on it for the next 25 years and beyond.

  • In the coming updates, I'm introducing a Shop, where you can buy games, gear, and more, using the achievements you've earned so far, and beyond.
  • I'm also exploring a subscription model, granting access to premium features for dedicated users.
  • AI is the future, and I'm embracing it! My main goal has always been to help you avoid buying games you wouldn't like, and with all the data I've gathered, I'm confident I can make this happen through advanced AI features.
  • Community is at the heart of games.directory, and I want to foster that even more. I'll be adding a Forum, additional social features, and a stronger focus on camaraderie.
Get ready for weekly and monthly challenges with awesome prizes, where you can showcase your gaming prowess!

In closing, I want to express my gratitude to the incredible gaming community that has supported and grown with games.directory. Your feedback, enthusiasm, and passion have driven me to create a platform that truly enhances the gaming experience.

So here's to the future of gaming - with games.directory v2.5, the possibilities are endless, and I can't wait to see what the next chapter holds! Thank you for being part of this incredible adventure.

games.directory ❤️ Steam - v2.0

by pacMakaveli on Thursday, 20th of October 2022 at 14:46PM

We're excited to launch the newly refreshed Steam integration within games.directory.

Ever since we integrated Steam, as our first platform, back in 2015, we sort of neglected it.
It always worked, but it was very slow and inefficient, especially for Users with lots of games, achievements, friends, badges, etc..

While you're probably not going to notice anything different on your account, the new changes include faster sync times, and additional features, like favorite badges and community badges.

In the coming weeks, you should see new features like badges. groups and more, in your .directory.

We expect some bugs, of course. As always, get in touch if you notice anything suspicious.
